The HeartBeat of IBC -
April 4, 2009, Saturday, starting at 8:00 AM, is a special day of Prayer and fasting for International Baptist Church of Manila.
Ř It was after Daniel's 21 days of prayer (mourning and fasting – Daniel 10:2 - 13) that the angel Michael came to the rescue.
Ř It was after 3 days of prayer and fasting that Paul, in Acts 9:1-19 that God sent Ananias to take away the “scales” of blindness in his eyes.
Ř In Acts 13:4 and 14:23, the apostles and disciples spent time praying and fasting before they made important decisions.
Ř Also in Luke 2:37 and 5:33, fasting and prayer are often linked together.
In the Bible, fasting is abstaining (refraining, denying one's self) from food or drink. The early believers, humbly denied something of the flesh, to glorify God, enhance their spirit, and went deeper in their prayer lives. Many times, the focus of fasting is on the lack of food. However, the purpose of fasting is to take our eyes off the things of this world and instead focus on God. Anything that we can temporarily give up in order to better focus on God can be fasting.
As we have heard from Dr. David Fleming's sermon last Sunday, in the story of Jesus' healing of the paralytic in Luke 5:17-26, in that his friends showed Deep Compassion, Determined Conviction, and Desperate Connection, and have taken risks to bring him to Jesus, we need all the spiritual resources we can avail of, to bring the lost of Salcedo Village and neighboring cities of Makati and connect them to Christ. We need prayer and fasting to be able to achieve this goal of reaching our community and bringing them to the saving knowledge of Christ.
Only after we at International Baptist Church of Manila, long and hunger for the power of God in our lives, having given up the simple comforts of life, for a time of prayer and fasting, will we experience God's spiritual blessing.
“Seven days without prayer makes one WEAK.”
“Satan trembles at the sight of the weakest Christian on his knees.”
Take some time off. Join us. Pray with us. Fast with us. Mark it on your calendars –
